8 years after coming out, Mauk opens up about the lack of guidance he experienced from his parents in exploring his sexuality. In this documentation he finds the courage to critically, but lovingly confront his parents with his childhood desire of wanting to have been guided by them.

'Aftercare was born out of my desire to be better understood by my parents. I’ve created this film to discuss the absence of guidance I’ve experienced, and reveal how power dynamics are reversed when a child is forced to teach their parents about what it means to be queer, rather than the other way around. This was my attempt to bridge the gap between our realities.'
